The PLHS Fighting Pointers Varsity Football team is 5-2 and JV is 6-1.  The Varsity is ranked in the top 10 schools in SD and the only Division 3 team in the top 10!  (Read more:  PL vs SDHS.  Their Booster group has been busy supporting more than just the team:  they have renovated the snack shack with electricity and running water,

raised funds for new stadium speakers and Lights for Homecoming (other contributors include PLHSFAA, PLHS Cheerleaders, and private donors). They are also raising funds to help with rehabilitation expenses for injured JV player Jonathan Cardenas who broke his C6 vertibrae in pre-season.  Read the article in the Beacon.

While the PLHS Cheerleaders are not cheering at the football games, they have been busy around the community helping the class of '67 celebrate their 40th reunion and supporting M.A.D.D. Strides for Life by encouraging the walkers and helping the KUSI weatherman make his morning report: Give me an R-A-I-N-I-N-G!

The PLHS Vanguard Marching Band finished 2nd in thier first competition of the season, the Poway Invitational.  The Drumline took 2nd, and the Auxiliary (Flag team) took 1st!  Next competition: Mt Carmel Oct. 27th.

PLHS SAIL team had four sailors who placed in the top ten at the Treasure Island Sailing Center high school Laser event in SF Bay, earning points for the team.  Nine sailors (many freshman) competed in the Sea Otter Regatta in Monterey, CA in FJ's and led the team to a 2nd place finish.

Class of 67 Gifts new Pointer Dog costume to PLHS

Class of '67 Gift to PL gives old Dog new look!

Prior to the class of '67 reunion event, Chair Marcy McCann heard that the Pointer Dog mascot costume was suffering from the ill effects of age and laundering.  It seems our very old dog had a bad case of mange (and no head.)  She set to work encouraging her classmates to donate to a Class Gift - a new Pointer Dog costume.  Pointer Alum Connie Panek '68 has been enlisted to fabricate the new Dog suit and they plan to  name him after long-time football coach Bennie Edens.

What a wonderful gift to PLHS.  Thank you Marcy and the class of 67!!!

If your class would like to make a gift to PLHS please contact the PLHSFAA.  We can give you lots of ideas and hold the funds in a nonprofit trust on behalf of your class.
